Hey everyone! I’m back from LA invigorated . . . and determined to get in better shape. Going to LA and being around all those crazy fit, beautiful folks will do that to you I guess? Unfortunately I missed seeing my friend Lori. We were hoping for a quick meet up but her honeymoon trip to Italy got in the way-priorities, priorities. BUT I did get to meet with some college friends and we had so much fun. There is nothing like hanging out with gals you’ve known since the age of 18 to help put everything in perspective.
One of the bonuses of the trip was that the Noodlehead Envelope Clutch (Noodlehead Envelope Clutch with Umbrella Prints Fabric | Entropy Always Wins.) I made and gifted made it’s way last week to a Democratic Fundraiser . . . featuring President Obama . . . at Gwenyth Paltrow’s house?! They confiscated all cell phones and cameras at the door so we didn’t get any pics of the bag with celebrities but it was surreal to get the texts from my friend afterward. I mean, what do you say to Julia Roberts when she is sitting next to you? To be honest these famous people sounded pretty grounded and lovely.
Oh, how I’ve loved sewing since returning. I am completely geeking out on minimalist designs. The baby quilt top above was a blast to make. It required a gigantic circle template which was a first for me and pretty darn easy. I’m looking forward to quilting this and thinking about binding it in a yummy bright solid. My leather scraps have also been keeping my imagination going and I have made up a few more bags with them trying to use up every last piece.
At the end of the month I am hosting a Mother/Daughter Halloween party for my friends and their daughters. Everyone has been tasked with dressing up as their famous female icon to celebrate girl power (the picture below is on the invite). Trying to encourage the gals to dress up, I made the bag below as a prize for the best costume (at my dress up parties, the young ones always pick their favorite). I’m calling it the Everyone Loves Catwoman Bag.
Well, I’m off to work on my costume. Happy weekend!
Hillary
Sounds like a great trip!
Thanks, hard to go wrong with old friends. 🙂
Your Halloween party sounds great, and I would try to go all out to win the Catwoman Bag! The theme at my friend’s party this year is “Wrong Side of the Law” and I am thinking that I will be Ms. Scarlet from Clue (with the Candlestick in the Library). I love the baby quilt and can see how a bright pop of color for the binding would really be great.
You are more then welcome to join us Yvonne though it would be quite the journey. Love the theme for your party. Thanks for giving me the head’s up on the LA quilting gig. Few of my friends are crafty and would have felt selfish making them go (that’s why the online community is so nice). 🙂
I am loving your minimalist approach! And your clutch at Gwyneth Paltrow’s house?! I want to hear more about that… I’m going to go snoop in old blog posts to see if I’ve just missed the story, but how awesome is that?!
Oh Kitty, the scoop is my best friend from college is engaged to a guy who is pretty involved politically (knows president Obama, one of the only Americans ever in N. Korea diplomatically etc.) He took her to meet the president at the fundraiser and the bag I gave her matched her dress. It was so fun to get her texts afterward. She said everyone was very friendly and gorgeous. No pics of my Clutch but sounds like it had fun. 😉
Welcome Back! Sounds like a good time for you and your clutch 🙂 Love the minimal quilt very striking in its’ simplicity. I am sure your party will be a hit with wonderful costumes; that prize is a great incentive! Love the orange star clutch too!
I so wish you and your daughter could come. We would have a blast together. Stephanie of Spontaneous Threads gave me the idea of being Annie Lebovitz (perfect since I will be carrying my camera everywhere). Trying to convince an uber pregnant friend to be Demi Moore (except not naked like in the famous pic). 🙂
We would have so much fun! 😦 Someday!
I love your costume idea! I had so many cameras, I went as the paparazzi for my sons first Halloween! 🙂 Emerson wants us to dress as twin Annas from Frozen! I am so ready for another Disney movie!
I would wear my Regency-period dress and go as Elizabeth Bennett. I wish I could think of someone more kick-arse, but as I already have the dress made …
I find watching Cirque de Soleil has a similar effect on me as LA has on you. I always come out amazed by what the human body can do and determined to get at least a little fitter.
