Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day – Leather and Vintage Hmong Remnant Handbag

Hi everyone! I’m excited today to give away a leather handbag I made earlier this year.  It is made out of leather repurposed from a coat donated by a friend and embellished with a vintage Hmong textile and a tribal tassel for the zipper pull.  The bag measures 12×7 inches and is lined.  I am happy to ship internationally.  To enter leave a comment describing a favorite handmade gift you have given to others.  For an extra chance to win leave a comment and follow me on Instagram (@entropyalwayswinsblog).  This contest is open until December 12th 5PM PST.

  1. A quilt I made from 30’s reproduction feed sacks for my Grandmother. Seeing her eyes when she saw it was priceless.

  2. Oh I love this marriage of textiles! Beautiful! I think the tree skirts I made and gifted to my sister and brother’s families are the best handmade Christmas gifts I’ve given.

  3. I make Victorian Christmas ornaments from fabric. I give them as small hostess gifts and to guests and family that visit at the holidays.

  4. My favorite gift that I made to give away was a Christmas table runner in greens, reds, and tans. It was made out of drunkard’s path blocks and quilted with concentric circles. It was for a work gift exchange, and the girls fought over it.

  5. I love giving knitted hats! I know that’s not sewing, but I’m just starting out sewing, mainly stuff that’s kinda wonky so far. But knitted hats are so quick and satisfying and the person almost always amazed by it!

  6. I made counted cross-stitch stockings, enhanced with just a touch of beading, for my three grandchildren & myself.

  7. I made a throw for my mom for mothers day, it was the 1st ive ever made and it came out really cute. I love your handbag its adorable!

  8. This is so beautiful! Last Christmas I made thirty felt ornaments and gave them to our school bazaar!

  9. I’ve only ever made one bag and it was a gift (I probably need to extend my bag sewing). It was a 241 Noodlehead bag and the recipient loved it (she chose the fabric herself) so it was a very gratifying experience!
I love this bag, it’s such a beautiful way to use repurposed textiles.

  10. What a beautiful bag – great repurposing! I love to give food gifts to people, and one year tried making cinnamon rolls for Christmas breakfast for several family members. Yummy but challenging! Many thanks for sharing with us!

  11. My favorite handmade gift is a flannel quilt I gave to my dad. It’s one of my first quilts, & although I’ve gotten better with time, he still uses it every night.

  12. this is absolutely exquisite!!!! my favorite gift was scraping together enough money – while in grad school and barely paying rent – to make it to my grandmother’s 86th birthday party as a complete surprise to her. technically not a handcrafted good, but the best gift i ever gave. thanks for the chance to win. if i do win this pouch will be proudly displayed on my desk!

  13. The most loved handmade I’ve given was to my sis in law when she had her baby from IVF – I used black, red & white making modern chevron pattern as babies only see black, red & white at the start of life and also she loves ferrari! Backing I used Charlie Harper lady bugs 🙂

  14. My favorite handmade gift I gave was a black & white & red modern chevron baby quilt for my sis in law who had issues with infertility and was successful with IVF. Babies only see black, white & red at the start of life & she loves Ferrari so it seemed fitting – backing I used Charlie Harper lady bugs. Oh & the give away purse is red & black!!!! 😀

  15. Hi there! What a great giveaway!
Thanks for the chance to win!
Beautiful bag! I always love making baby quilts for new moms for their babies to snuggle under 🙂

  16. That bag is so lovely 🙂
My favorite gift I’ve made is hard to choose there are so many!!! Maybe a hand knitted dragon for my son that actually involved sewing together 30 odd pieces.

  17. A favorite handmade gift I gave to others was a crocheted cowl I made my sister in law. She loves it and that makes me happy. 🙂

  18. When I first moved out of home I went and lived in the UK for just over 12 months. I lodged with an elderly lady for a while, she would go to her craft class every week, and always bring home extra pieces of material for me. I made a beautiful Christmas appliqué wall hanging and posted back to my mum in Australia. She treasures it and hangs it on the wall with pride every holiday season. It’s a treasured handmade memory of a great adventure in my life.

    1. Hey Sarah Congrats, it looks like you are the winner of this bag. Let me know your address so I can mail it to you. Email me at hgdc at me dot com
