About

Hillary Goodwin is a textile artist and quilter based in Northern California with roots in North Carolina and Washington State.  Her work explores modern themes while paying homage to the rich traditions of quilting, dyeing, hand stitching and leatherwork.  Botanically dyed fabric, repurposed tshirts, grain sacks as well as modern textiles all show up in her often hand quilted pieces.

Goodwin received a Bachelors of Science and a Doctorate at the University of Washington.  Her work has won prestigious awards and been exhibited internationally as well as featured in multiple books and magazines.  One of her community quilts was acquired in 2021 by the Henry Ford Museum in Detroit and is part of their permanent collection.

  1. Hey Hillary, just want to let you know i nominated your for the One Lovely Blog Award. Of course you don’t have to participate, but if you want to, go over to my website and get the 411 on how to. You are definitely one of my favorite makers – thanks for being so inspiring.

    1. On the surface, it’s a somewhat confusing and even depressing title, no? As a physician I am all too aware of how brief our lives are. The same goes for the amazing handmade things I love to spend time on. Knowing the transient nature of it all (Entropy Always Wins) makes our lives and our makes even more beautiful in my mind. Make beauty, live beauty despite and even because of their transient nature. 🙂
